Ekamuthu - Phase 01 – 02.08.2020
Ekamuthu - Phase 01 is the first initiative of the Rotaract Club of Wellawatte under the community services avenue for the Rotaract Year 2020/21 which was also the first event which the club physically conducted after the pandemic lockdown in Sri Lanka. Ekamuthu was held to emphasize the unity and harmony experienced by our fellow Sri Lankans, uniting them under the name of Rotaract despite the religious differences and beliefs.
Ekamuthu phase 01 was held on August 02, 2020 at Sri Boddhirukkaramaya Buddhist Temple, Wellawwatte from 08.00AM onwards with volunteers from various Rotaract Clubs and under the guidance of the respectful Thero of the temple. The volunteers present ensured to maintain high hygienic and safety precautions and wore their own face mask at all-time due to COVID-19 situation.
It was just after a heavy rain during the early morning hours. We teamed ourselves and segregated the place, in order to clean the space which was covered with fallen leaves from the trees in the wider surrounding.
Thereafter we collected the piles of dried leaves, and cleaned the parking area which was covered in mud. Later, we addressed our fellow volunteers on completion of our very first phase of project Ekamuthu, and requested to show the same amount of support and encouragement for our second phase of the project which will be held on the coming weeks. As we cherished our friendship, bonding and shared the same belief, the event for the day came to a conclusion at 12.30pm.
Ekamuthu - Phase 02 – 08.08.2020
The second phase of the community services initiative Ekamuthu was held on August 08, 2020 at St.Lawrence's Church, Wellawatte from 02.00PM onwards. The location was thus selected to help out the church community with the cleaning process since the following day was the church feast. With the guidance of Reverend father of the parish, we started off the cleaning process within the church premises. We made sure to maintain high hygienic and safety precautions and encouraged our volunteers to have their own face mask worn at during COVID-19 situation, as we were volunteering the act.
Volunteers present on that day were divided into teams and were segregated for duties. We started off with the church hall, dusted the doors and swept the floor, afterward we cleaned the worshipping center. Finally washed the church grotto floor and car park area. In an act of kindness, the parish priest provided refreshments for those who were present to thank their service.
