The Pirates' Crew - Kid's Summer Camp

Pirates’ Crew - Kids’ Summer Camp by the Rotaract Club of Wellawatte, was successfully held for kids aged 3 ½ to 6 years, on the 16th August 2019 at the Fun Factory, Mount Lavinia from 9 am to 12 noon. This event was planned in aid of raising funds for the future community service projects and to cover administration costs of the club.

The tickets were priced at 2000/-. This event was organized since it was the holiday season for the kids. Firstly, a flyer was released inviting the parents to send their kids for this summer camp. The project was initiated by two rotaractors from our club who are teachers by profession. Hence, we had the privilege of handling the children with care. The members arrived at the venue one hour prior to the event to make all the arrangements.

The kids started arriving from 8:45am and our members welcomed the little pirates with a colorful headband for them to wear throughout the camp. Campers learnt about pirates and engaged in themed crafts and also had fun with many other exciting activities, like, walking the plank – where the children had the challenge of walking the length of the plank without falling off, party in the ship – where the children danced for some songs, treasure hunt – one of our member was dressed up like a pirate.

There were clues numbered from 1 to 10 and the children through the clues had to find the gold coins which was with the pirate, shark attack tag – the little pirates played runners and catcher and AHOY story time – where the teachers explained the story of “My grandma is a Pirate”. The children also made crafts and were involved in painting. Few registrations commenced approximately a week prior to the Summer Camp and the rest were on the day of the event. Behind the success of this financing project, stood our enthusiastic club members backed by the project chair persons who coordinated everything smoothly. A sense of accomplishment was felt as a result of the efforts put in by all throughout, both before and during the event.
