“A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal”
Rotaract Club of Wellawatte initiated the project “First Step - පළමු පියවර - முதற்படி” to collect donations for the children at The Boys Industrial Home in Havelock Road as the first community service project to kick start the new Rotaract year by striving to bring happiness on the faces of those who have lost their smiles. Setup in March 1980, The Boy’s Industrial Home and Orphanage (BIH) is 129 years old. It is one of the oldest homes in Sri Lanka and is a haven for orphans and boys who have no home, or need to be removed from their present environment due to tragic family circumstances caused by various addictions, abuse or mere abject poverty. At present the BIH consists of 25 boys and is taken care by the Warden Mr. Shantha. The BIH is not funded by any external or Sri Lankan funding agency and the necessary funds have been generated by donations of friends of the BIH.
List of items which were required by the home were informed to the members of the clubs, friends in Rotaract, friends of Rotaract and the general public by the club through our official social media platforms and the requested items are as follows.
