Break-A-Way 2019

BREAK-A-WAY is a professional development project, which was organized by the Rotaract Club of Wellawatte for the 3rd consecutive year with the motive to educate new club members about Rotaract and Origin of Rotaract Club of Wellawatte. From this project, members who are new to the club were enlightened about the club history and traditions, Rotaract and Rotary functionalities and its benefits to the society. Furthermore they were involved in an outbound training activity to engage with the existing members.

The project took place at Independence Square Premises on 29th of September 2019 with 17 participants. The BREAK-A-WAY project was structured in three sessions. Session One: Session 1 had three activities Build l Break l Protect – Participants had to build a castle with limited time and resources, also protect it from opponents when they attack. It’s an activity to encourage team work within the club how they have to work as a team to build this family and sustain with good work while facing external challenges, Blind Pass - Improves concentration and team coordination. How we have to balance the team in numbers to achieve one goal and how the entire team works with one motive, Balloon race – A healthy competition where the contribution of each member matters to complete the race. How team plans and works on time are important factors to finish the race with a balloon barrier.

Session Two: Session two was conducted by the PDRR Rtn Sathiyeandra Tharmakularajasingam, which was an interactive session with regard to the History and Traditions of Rotaract Club of Wellawatte along with the benefits of Rotaract and its benefit to the society. When talking about leadership and how the club operates, he explained the entire mechanism by relating it to sailing a Ship where the Captain of the Ship is the President and the members being the crew.

Session Three: Final session had a fun and creative activity to make the bond stronger and to enjoy the moment with the club members. We gave a topic ‘What is Rotaract for me’ for the teams to come up with an art from their perspective and present it to the judges. This activity was initiated with the aim of how an outsider can understand what Rotaract is all about by looking at that poster. Furthermore, giveaways and gifts were distributed to the club members and ended with refreshments. We made this an open event for new potential members who would like to join the club.
