Annual Wella Pongal is a signature project done under club service and PR avenues bringing everyone together to experience the traditional Pongal festival. All the members get together and make Pongal and celebrate the event and provide refreshments to the participants.
Thaipongal Festival was celebrated for the 5th successive time this year by the Rotaract Club of Wellawatte and took place on the 14th of January, 2018. The event was graced by distinguished Rotarians and several participants from various Rotaract clubs (and various faiths) attended this function along with members of the general public to witness the traditional making of ‘Pongal’ along with the rituals that follow.
A chairperson was appointed and decided on the venue, time and other important things to be bought. Ingredients to make Pongal and things for decorations were bought before the event. Members volunteered to bring few food items. On the day of the project all club members got together and prepared pongal and distributed to all the other Rotaract club members and the general public.
