Rotaract is a leadership and community service organization sponsored by the Rotary International. Rotaract plays a part in a global effort to bring peace and International understanding. Rotaract stages an opportunity for young men and women to expand the knowledge and skills that will enable them to develop themselves personally. This enhances their ability to confront the needs of the society and the community to promote a better and secure tomorrow.
With such a motive “The poya day project” is been carried on. Initially conducted by the Rotaract District, this project is now been carried forward by the Rotaract clubs of Wellawatte, Centennial United, Battarmulla and Panadura. This project has been going on for more than 5 years now being a pillar to a strong friendship between the four clubs.
The poya day projects were held on the poya day of every month, where the four clubs together are on a journey to bring smiles on the faces of children and elders who have lost their family due to various reasons. We visit a home every poya day spending time with the elders or the children of the home, bringing happiness and love to them. Giving a sense of connection and company. We hope to continue this in the upcoming poya days. During the year of 2015/16, 11 poyaday projects were organized and each month was hosted by each club.
