Mayurapathi Festival Juice Stall

The Adipoora festival of the Mayurapathi Sri Badra Kaali Amman Kovil is a special occasion in the calender of the Hindu community. It happens annually on the month of August.  The festival starts with the Pall Kavadi procession, and on next day, the chariot festival begins and goes on for 2 days. The festival ends with the water cutting ceremony.

The chariot festival starts from the temple and reaches Bamabalapitya through Dickmons road. Then it goes along the Galle road covering the parts of Bambalapitya and Wellawatte and reaches the Kovil. During this time, almost thousand people gather to get the blessings of the god who rides on the chariot. Most of them walk along with the chariot from the beginning until the end. People living around the area regularly provide refreshments to the devotees.

The annual Ther festival of the Mayurapathi Sri Badra Kaali Amman Kovil in Wellawatte, Colombo took place on 22nd of August 2015. The Adipoora festival of the Mayurapathi Sri Badra Kaali Amman Kovil took place for the 28th time. The Ther Chariot commenced parading the streets with the participation of a large number of devotees.

Rotaract club of Wellawatte, being a part in serving the community decided to have a drink stall and quench the thirst of devotees. Rtr. Krishanthi was assigned as the chairperson. With the help of all the members, all gathered at W.A.Silva Mw, in Wellawatte and provided drinks to the all the people until the chariot passed. Regardless of being a Hindu or a Non-Hindu the members of the club together came up to help on the project. Through this project, the club gained a good PR.
